Megan, from Northern Ireland, and Adolfo, from Peru, were searching for a destination wedding venue with the wow factor. The location had to have good flight connections with both countries, as well as being a fun place to spend their wedding weekend. Barcelona certainly fit the bill, and after considering various venues, they fell in love with Bell Recó. All that was left was to put together an outstanding team of top vendors, and the stage was set for a fairytale wedding in Barcelona.

Very unusually for Spain, rain clouds made an appearance, but spirits were by no means dampened. In fact, the couple couldn’t have picked a more perfect venue as the interior spaces are just as stunning as the exterior.

The Wedding

The couple wanted to give their guests an authentic Barcelona experience, and they certainly managed that. The wedding weekend was celebrated in a series of some of the most emblematic locations in the area. Wedding morning preparations took place in the historic Hotel Majestic, a stonesthrow from La Pedrera, one of Barcelona’s most famous landmarks. The wedding party then made their way to the Basilica Sants Just I Pastor, the oldest church in Barcelona. Finally, guests were whisked off to Bell Reco, the icing on the cake of this fairytale wedding in Barcelona. We’ll let the gorgeous images from Andrea Ferrara tell the rest of the story…

The Theme

Megan loved the idea of berry tones in her colour palette, and after discussing various options we decided to add a touch of navy as a base tone and gold as a highlight. In keeping with the venue and the overall feel of a fairytale wedding in Barcelona, she wanted to give an opulent look to the dinner setting, and the raised floral feature over the top table was the perfect final touch. The perpendicular tables with abundant floral garlands created a truly elegant ambience.

The Highlights

We loved how the couple injected aspects of both of their cultures into the celebrations. The favours at the dinner table were little alpacas, a symbol of Peru. Pisco sours served after dinner gave another nod to Adolfo’s home country. The Irish contingent was provided by the band, The Bob Standards, who played some true Irish classics, before moving on to pop covers which got the whole crowd on the dancefloor. Guests were also treated to Shortcross Gin at the bar, sent over from Megan’s family’s distillery in Northern Ireland.

It was a true pleasure to organise this fairytale wedding in Barcelona. Aside from working with such a lovely international group and such a sweet and gracious couple, it was a refreshing change for us to manage the flow of the day in a stunning interior space rather than outdoors. Switching spaces at the last moment was no mean feat, but we certainly wouldn’t be in this job if we didn’t love a challenge! A big thanks to the amazing team of vendors who pulled out all the stops to make sure plan B worked out even better than plan A.
